This year’s Halloween Dance was held on October 29th at Moretz Mills in downtown Hickory. As usual, a great time was enjoyed by Rotarians and guests alike. Entertainment was provided by the legendary Band of Oz and by the costumes of all those who came in disguise. The proceeds, which are expected to exceed $10,000 will again go to fund scholarships for deserving local young people to attend Catawba Valley Community College. A big thanks to all those who helped to make the event such a success.
Rotary Club of Hickory Sunrise member Ric Vandett presents a pound of “Hickory Sunrise Rotary Roast” to Linda Neff of the Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island at that club’s first meeting since Hurricane Matthew hit the Island in early October. The coffee is a special blend created by Hickory Sunrise member Scott Owen who owns a coffee shop in Hickory.
At our meeting on October 5th, Ric Vandett introduced Dr. Jane Everson, co-founder of Adult Children of Aging Parents (ACAP), who presented an interesting program on the valuable work that organization does to help adults caring for aging parents. The group has a chapter in Hickory that meets every second Tuesday at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church at 7:00 p.m. Their 2nd Annual Conference will be in Hickory on Saturday, November 5.
