On September 14th, Hickory Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased to welcome the well-known face of Bill Shillito, who stopped by to present an update on the work done by the Coins for Alzheimers Research Trust (CART). It was a timely reminder of what happens to the coins deposited each week in those blue buckets on the table. CART started in 1996 in South Carolina with Rotarians voluntarily emptying their pockets and purses of change at weekly meetings and has since spread to include several Rotary districts throughout the south-east United States. As of May 2016, CART had awarded $5.8 million dollars in 34 grants to recognized US research institutions. More information can be found at http://www.cartfund.org/.
