On September 14th, Hickory Sunrise Rotary Club was pleased to welcome the well-known face of Bill Shillito, who stopped by to present an update on the work done by the Coins for Alzheimers Research Trust (CART). It was a timely reminder of what happens to the coins deposited each week in those blue buckets on the table. CART started in 1996 in South Carolina with Rotarians voluntarily emptying their pockets and purses of change at weekly meetings and has since spread to include several Rotary districts throughout the south-east United States. As of May 2016, CART had awarded $5.8 million dollars in 34 grants to recognized US research institutions. More information can be found at http://www.cartfund.org/.
It’s that time again! Mark your calendars for Saturday October 29th for the return of The Band Of Oz to North Carolina’s westernmost beach town! As with previous events, proceeds will go towards providing scholarships for deserving local students wishing to attend CVCC.
Tickets available from: Any member, or call Bob at 828-303-0057, or email us, tell us how many tickets you need and we’ll hold them for you at the door. Tickets are $30 each and cover dinner and, of course, the music.
Our Valentine’s Day Dance at Moretz Mills marked another great success in our campaign to provide scholarships enabling deserving local students to attend Catawba Valley Community College. As always, of course, it was also a lot of fun.
The evening started with a sumptuous turkey and ham buffet prepared and served by Hickory Sunrise Rotary Club members.
Guests were treated to a display by the reigning world champion shaggers.
Music was provided by the fabulous Entertainers.
A huge thank you to everyone who came and especially to our wonderful sponsors.
